Pierce County Amateur Radio Communication Services (ARCS) supports Emergency Communications within Pierce County, Washington. The mission of ARCS is to support Pierce County Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES)(website), holding and managing funds and equipment for it, so ARES may meet the needs of its served agencies and Pierce County communities. Pierce County ARES is also identified as District 5 of the Western Washington Section of the Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL), the national umbrella organization for amateur radio. Accordingly, it is a program of ARRL and is not itself a legal entity. Pierce County ARCS was formed in 1994 as a Washington state nonprofit corporation and has been recognized by the IRS as tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (IRS Determination Letter).
